An adapted version of the element-wise weighted total least squares method for applications in chemometrics

چکیده
The Maximum Likelihood PCA (MLPCA) method has been devised in chemometrics as a generalization of the well-known PCA method in order to derive consistent estimators in the presence of errors with known error distribution. For similar reasons, the Total Least Squares (TLS) method has been generalized in the field of computational mathematics and engineering to maintain consistency of the parameter estimates in linear models with measurement errors of known distribution. In a previous paper [M. Schuermans, I. Markovsky, P.D. Wentzell, S. Van Huffel, On the equivalance between total least squares and maximum likelihood PCA, Anal. Chim. Acta, 544 (2005), 254–267], the tight equivalences between MLPCA and Element-wise Weighted TLS (EW-TLS) have been explored. The purpose of this paper is to adapt the EW-TLS method in order to make it useful for problems in chemometrics. We will present a computationally efficient algorithm and compare this algorithm with the standard EW-TLS algorithm and the MLPCA algorithm in computation time and convergence behaviour on chemical data. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. The element-wise weighted total least-squares problem
A new technique is considered for parameter estimation in a linear measurement error model AX ≈ B, A=A0 + Ã, B=B0 + B̃, A0X0 =B0 with row-wise independent and non-identically distributed measurement errors Ã, B̃. Here, A0 and B0 are the true values of the measurements A and B, and X0 is the true value of the parameter X. The total least-squares method yields an inconsistent estimate of the parame...
متن کاملApplication of Recursive Least Squares to Efficient Blunder Detection in Linear Models
In many geodetic applications a large number of observations are being measured to estimate the unknown parameters. The unbiasedness property of the estimated parameters is only ensured if there is no bias (e.g. systematic effect) or falsifying observations, which are also known as outliers. One of the most important steps towards obtaining a coherent analysis for the parameter estimation is th...
متن کاملSimultaneous Spectrophotometric Determination of Iron, Cobalt and Copper by Partial Least-Squares Calibration Method in Micellar Medium
Iron, cobalt and copper are metals, which appear together in many real samples, both natural and artificial. Recently a classical univariate micellar colorimetric method has been developed for determination of these metal ions. The organized molecular assemblies such as micelles are used in spectroscopic measurements due to their possible effects on the systems of interest. The ability of mi...

متن کاملDerivation of the generalized rank annihilation method (GRAM)
Introduction The generalized rank annihilation method (GRAM) is a method for curve resolution and calibration that requires only a single calibration sample to obtain the socalled second-order advantage, i.e., it can determine the analyte of interest in the presence of unsuspected interferences [1]. GRAM is only one of many competing methods that can be applied to this particular data set-up. H...
